On June 5th, 2008 a celebratory gathering was held at the Caedmon School in New York, NY to honor the memory and life’s work of Angela Morga. Angela’s extraordinary gifts in teaching and helping children achieve their potential were evident to those who observed her in the presence of children or witnessed her passion when discussing the topic. Through her talents many children, especially those with special needs, were supported in their early journey through life and her untimely passing sadly robs us of so much potential good work.
The turnout was impressive and diverse with family members, friends, and co-workers sharing their memories and experiences of Angela both personal and professional. Her presence was palpable as songs were sung and stories told in the hallowed halls of the place where her spirit truly shined. The mood of the evening was wholly somber, but not without plenty of smiles and laughs intermingled with the tears as coworkers and parents shared stories of some of their memorable experiences with Ms. Morga.
It began with a general reception which gave some of the attending family and friends a chance to meet the faculty with whom Angela worked so closely over the last 10 years. The room was arranged very thoughtfully with various pictures and other memorabilia as well as a touching pictorial montage assembled by her brother which ran throughout the evening. Some songs were sung and one by one her coworkers took the spotlight to share a personal story from their time with Angela. Each was lighthearted yet very moving, again invoking mixed emotions of joy and sadness from those in attendance. Emotions which were not only ubiquitous on that evening, but were also such an essential part of Angela’s life. The night was concluded for some with a visit to the classroom where Angela practiced her craft and imparted her gifts to the children she loved so much. Again her presence could be felt as an impromptu tour was given and some final memories were shared.
Thanks go to the faculty of the Caedmon School for facilitating the evening. It was truly a very well presented and well received event befitting the memory of one of the most exceptional women that many of us have ever had the privilege to know.
